Modern hair transplantation depends on a principle first described by Orentreich in 1957 as
donor dominance.According to this principle, hair taken from the permanent hair-bearing rim of
patients with androgenetic alopecia (donor area) and when transferred to non-hair-bearing
areas of the scalp (recipient area), continues to grow in its new site for as long as it would have
in the area from which it was taken. Hair transplantation is not only an art but also science which
has been improving since the day of its invention.
Techniques of Hair Transplantation:
Three major techniques for hair restoration are in use which include
● Strip harvesting/Folicular Unit Extraction (FUT),
● Follicular unit excision (FUE).
Follicular Unit Transplantation(FUT): It is also called strip harvesting technique. A strip of skin
is excised from the back part of the scalp(occipital safe donor area) and individual grafts are
dissected and implanted on the recipient area. The results with this technique are good.
However, it will result in a linear scar and the donor area which may look unsightly if the person
wants to keep the hairs short. The post operative pain and discomfort will be prolonged in FUT
method. There are chances of wound dehiscence and scarring which may be visible if one
keeps the hair short on the back of the scalp. In recent days, it is done only when large number
of grafts are required and hence this method can be combined with FUE method for more
coverage in advanced grades of baldness.
Follicular Unit Excision(FUE)
In this method, each individual follicular unit (FU) is obtained directly from the scalp, rather than
from a strip of donor tissue that has been removed from the scalp. Previously it was called
Follicular Unit Extraction. But it has been modified as ‘Follicular unit Excision’ recently.
In FUE hair transplant surgery, an instrument is used to make a small, circular incision in
the skin around a follicular unit, separating it from the surrounding tissue. The unit is
then extracted (pulled) directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole. This process
of extracting each follicular unit repeatedly is a tedious process.This process is
repeated until the hair transplant surgeon has harvested enough follicular units for the
planned hair restoration. This process can take 6-8 hours and in large sessions, may be
even completed over two consecutive days. The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm in
size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days, leaving tiny white scars
buried in the hair in the back and sides of the scalp.These scars are usually very small
and will be virtually invisible amidst other hairs which grow in a downward direction.

MICRO-FUE: In this technique, as the name suggests, everything we do is in micro method.
The instruments we use are of smaller size, the incisions we make for extracting the
grafts/follicles are extremely small. In usual FUE method, the punches used to excise grafts are
of more than 1.0mm diameter. This led to wider scars in the donor area and subsequent moth
eaten or see through appearance. But in micro-FUE, the punch size used is 0.6 to 0.8 mm
diameter only. This helps in harvesting more grafts without causing wider scars in the donor

This is a more advanced and refined technique in which along with the micro-FUE method, we
enhance the graft survivability by adding purified Recombinant growth factors and Platelet Rich
Plasma(PRP) to the holding solution and also use them during implantation. Adding these
growth factors will enhance the graft uptake, healing time and survivability(85-90%). The grafts
will grow faster and the density achieved after surgery is very high.

ULTRADENSE FUE: This is one more addition to the innovations that has been brought by the
surgeons in CUTIBLESS. This unique technique was developed by the research team of
